CANDLE CARE

Our Candle Care and Safety Tips

Before You Burn

Remove and discard any packaging before you light your candle for the first time. Place your candle on a level heat resistant surface. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Place your candle in a draft free area. Keep area clear of any flammable objects.

Candle Prep

Before each burn, always trim your wick to 5mm and discard wick trimmings to ensure optimal flame height and even melt pool.

First Burn

When you light your candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of your candle vessel. This will create a memory ensuring your candle does not tunnel and gives optimal scent throw and maximum burn time.

Extinguishing Candle

To maintain the wonderful fragrance after you burn your candle, we recommend using a wick dipper or simply a metal skewer to extinguish your candle flame, by folding the wick over into the wax then straightening it up again. This will avoid unpleasant smoke from the wick and prime it for the following use, making it easier to light. Avoid blowing candle wick to extinguish as this may cause small pieces (sometimes referred to as mushrooms) to dislodge and cause a fire hazard. Always check candle after extinguishing to ensure candle wick has not reignited.

Essential Tips

Keep melt pool free of wick trimmings. Do not burn candle for longer than 4hrs. Your candle is finished when there is 2cm of wax left in the bottom of candle vessel. Do not burn candle all the way to the bottom, to avoid glassware becoming too hot and possibly breaking. Use a wick dipper to extinguish candle flame correctly.

Crystals In Candles

The crystals in your candle can be removed before your first burn if easily accessible or once your candle is finished and wax is cool. Wash crystals in warm soapy water and gently dry. Some crystals will have cavities where the wax can be stuck in, a toothbrush with warm soapy water should remove any such residue.

Recycling Tips

Once you have finished with your candle you can scoop out any remaining wax and use in a melt burner. Gently hand wash candle vessel in warm soapy water before disposing of in your correct recycling bin, including the aluminium wick holder and lid. You may like to re purpose your glass jar as a planter for succulents, flowers, hold cotton balls, pencils, odds and ends etc.
